I adopt an interdisciplinary approach to making work, and frequently produce artists' books as a document or companion piece to a particular work, or as an autonomous, self-contained work. Process is an integral part of my work, and this is revealed and animated through the turning of pages. An Opportunity To Investigate Bird Activity followed a performance in which I charted the presence of any birds on a homemade bird feeder. Having spent an entire day from sunrise to sunset without a single bird settling on the birdfeeder, the logbook remains empty, allowing the audience to use it as they wish. Take A Seat consists of a number of accounts written by chairs that reveal the ups and downs of life as a seat. After embarking on a mission to find the fruit with which I share my surname, the publication, My quest to find a shaddock was produced. It offers the audience an insight into the origins and history of the shaddock fruit and my family, as well as providing a recipe for shaddock marmalade. |
